Research Background and Interests:

I generally conduct behavioral research (i.e., research informed by psychological and sociological theories).  However, I have also conducted some design science research.

I have two main research interests:

  1. System usage:  In this research, I am particularly interested in
    • understanding how information systems need to be used if individuals, groups, and organizations are to benefit from them
    • discovering what leads individuals and collectives to use information systems in effective or ineffective ways
  2. Systems analysis and design:  In this research, I am particularly interested in
    • Improving the use of conceptual modeling in systems analysis
    • Understanding how ontologies (and ontological theories) can be used effectively in systems analysis and design
    • Understanding how systems analysis and design is done in practice

Methodological Interests:

I am open to any research method.  To date, however, I have only used experiments and surveys in my own research.

I have a strong interest in papers that extend our knowledge of research methods and how they can be used effectively.
