Interests:
My research examines how social and political contexts influence and are influenced by IS development, implementation, and use, using a range of social theories (actor network theory, structuration theory, critical social theory, ethnomethodology, communicative action, power-knowledge, deconstruction, and institutional theory). Various topics I have examined include enterprise systems and packaged software, electronic patient record systems, user involvement, privacy, diffusion, outsourcing, cyber crime and security, and system development methods. These topics have been examined within medical, legal, engineering, entrepreneurial, and governmental settings. Most of my work has been qualitative in nature, with a strong emphasis on participant observation, primarily using action research.
