Research Background and Interests:
My training is in behavioral research and I draw extensively on psychology and organizational behavior theories in my work. My current research interests are in the multilevel mechanisms through which information systems (IS) phenomena unfold in team contexts. Specific domains in which I have conducted research include software development teams, virtual teams, and technology implementation and use.
Software development teams:
- Examining outcomes of agile development practices
- Understanding how teams cope with dynamic task/project environments
- Understanding how teams operate across organizational and cultural boundaries (e.g., offshored, outsourced IS projects)
Virtual teams:
- Understanding how teams use technology to operate across spatial, temporal, and configurational boundaries
- Examining the use of technology to manage team processes (interpersonal, action, and transition)
- Understanding how virtual team context affects individual team member work behavior
Technology implementation and use:
- Understanding how team context and behavior affect individual use of technology
- Examining the process through which individual usage patterns affect team outcomes
- Understanding the outcomes of technology use at the team and individual level
Methodological Interests:
I have used a variety of quantitative research methods in my work, including:
- Laboratory experiments
- Longitudinal research
- Survey-based field research
- Multilevel-based techniques (e.g., random coefficient modeling [RCM], multilevel structural equation modeling [MSEM])
